Upcoming Cars: Cadillac A3/1-series competitor?

Cadillac may try to spin this off the next-gen Opel Astra / Saab 9-1 in a bid to help GM's luxury brand establish a foothold in Europe. I don't personally think it'll help a lot (the "small" Europe-only BLS is not selling well), and might dilute the brand even before it's firmly established in people's minds. What Cadillac really needs in Europe is the great-looking next-Gen CTS, as well as a wagon and a diesel engine.

It'll be a different story if GM decides to sell this small Cadillac in the US, but given that there is only a small market right now for cars like it I don't think the General can make the business case stick. Which is potentially a pity, because the class could use an injection of testosterone Cadillac-style.
